Dethrix Drakath I was the former king of Greenguard and last of a long line of tyrants who sat on the throne of Dreadhaven[1] which ended after Sir Alteon's rebellion.

His lust for ever grander power drove him to contact the Queen of Monsters in an attempt to summon her to Lore and attain her powers, this quest led to the deaths, mental and physical torture of countless of Drakath's subjects and the birth of a boy who bears a fragment of the Queen of Monsters, a boy the king adopted and named after himself, Dethrix Drakath II.

After his downfall and execution at the hands of Sir Valen, Dethrix was posthumously humiliated by the forbidding of the utterance of his name, and became known as Dinkleheim Slugwrath, an euphemism of his terrible name.

History[]

Background[]

A cruel and power-hungry man, Dethrix Drakath ruled Greenguard with an iron fist, which he maintained well with deranged knights and a myriad of monsters under his wing, with whom he slew the Knights of Good, defeated the Frogzard Riders, and hunted down the Dragonlords. His Alliance of Underlords consisted of Vampires, Necromancers, Death Knights, Monstrous Warlords, Pyromancers, Mummies, and many other monsters, all of whom received even parts of the world to rule.

Under his thumb, the common folks were enslaved and crime rose enough to keep steady supplies of prisoners to be used on experiments and for entertainment as they were, alongside traitors and the poor, killed by monsters in front of the nobility.[2]

Summoning the Queen[]

But despite having so much power, it still was not enough for Drakath, he wanted more, and to achieve that he made contact with the Queen of Monsters, an ancient and mighty being imprisoned in another realm and that could only be unsealed by someone directly related to her,[3] like a son. For that he needed first to summon, through a painful ritual for all involved, a fragment of her from beyond and inside a mortal woman who would serve as its vessel.

Dethrix did not trust nor respect the Queen of Monsters but nonetheless agreed to summon her, and fortunately for him, the fragment of the Queen housed in the Vessel had its power, capacity to think and mental influence drastically limited.[4]

Dethrix had common women kidnapped from the streets to be brought to the castle and used for the summoning ritual. The court mages impregnated several women through magic and none worked, only ever producing dead babies, with the exception of one homeless woman called Ophelia, who gave birth to a healthy boy who housed in him a fragment of the Queen.[5]

Ophelia fought back when the court mages took the boy from her but it was vain, Dethrix ordered that she be kept alive in case she was needed again, a process that was arduous on the mages and required a steady supply of prisoners from the dungeons as well as several forbidden spells known only to the court mages.[6]

King Dethrix adopted the boy and named him after himself: Dethrix Drakath II. Despite him looking nothing like either his brown-haired and gray-eyed father nor his blonde and brown-eyed wife, Queen Eleanor, who had disappeared from the public eyes for months, King Dethrix claimed to the masses that the boy was his own biological son and that Eleanor died giving birth to him. An hour-long funeral was held for Queen Eleanor.[7]

In the following years King Drakath raised Dethrix II like his own son and a prince, giving him everything he neeeded save for love and respect. In truth, King Dethrix feared his son murdering him over the crown and actively hindered his development by punishing his teachers if he learned too fast and was prone to outbursts of physical and emotional[8] abuse on the boy, one time even pushing him down the stairs and causing him to break an arm.[9]

Despite the king's terrible treatment of his son, Dethrix II still saw his father as a role model and practically worshipped him and thought he was the bravest and most noble man, despite only ever seeing him from time to time, but it was just as the king intended to raise him. Most times he only visited his son to lay on him the pressure to live up to his expectations and got angry when his son did not, often threatening him and needing the court mages to hold back his sword.[10]

One of the few more positive occasions when King Drakath and his son met was at galas the king held for the nobility, although one time Dethrix ended making his father "look like a fool" when he attempted to show him what his tutors taught him, causing the king to wail on him and Dethrix to cry.[11]

Downfall[]

Fed with Dethrix's tyranny, Sir Alteon, the good man he knighted raised an army against him to overthrow him and freed the territories that were ruled by Dethrix Drakath's Underlords where any survivors had gone into hiding. Dethrix Drakath placed the amulet associated with the Queen of Monsters around Drakath's neck while ordering his court mages to sacrifice themselves by collapsing the Vessel's chamber with her and all of them inside.[12]

After years of war, he was finally defeated and Alteon took his place on the throne at the demand of the people who wanted him as king. He was later dubbed the "Unknown King", the "Tyrant King", the "Monster King", and "Slugwrath".

Dethrix began his revenge by abducting Lynaria Alteon. Valen went to Ebonslate Fortress and fought his way past the Ebonslate Guards, Ebonslate Knights, Lycan Brutes, Mind Con-Trolls, and Sp-Eyes. After besting the Ebonslate Bruiser, Valen engaged Dethrix to free Lynaria only to be badly beaten by Dethrix. After being saved by the Mysterious Stranger, Valen claimed the Doom Knight armor, returned to Ebonslate Fortress, and fought past the Ebonslate Imps, Ebon Dungeon Guards, and Elite Dungeon Guards when looking for Lynaria. When he finds Lynaria, Valen is confronted by Dethrix Drakath. This time, Valen defeats Dethrix where he even stabs him and rips out his heart. Lynaria was horrified at what he became.
