The Pisces, more commonly known as Fishmen are a common genus of amphibious, omnivorous humanoid creatures that inhabit the waters of Lore. There are at least four catalogued species of Fishmen[1] plus other variations such as the ones converted by EbilCorp.
History[]
Biology[]
Fishmen have the bodies of fish and live in bodies of saline and fresh water.[2] Reproduction is presumably sexual as there are at least two distinct sexes and egg-laying has been observed.[3] Diet is consisted of seaweed[4] and implied meat,[5][6] human even.[7]
Human-like appendages allow the Fishmen to walk and breathe on land, as well as either craft or steal weapons such as tridents and wield them.
Addionally, Fishmen seem to be very susceptible to changes in their biology due to the environment they live in. The Tune-a-Fish have been transformed by long-time exposure to the heavy metal music of Mythsong. Pollution in the water from such as that caused by factories also mutates them, much more heavily, as seen with Kuro, whose tentacles, size and plating make it barely resemble a Fishman. Excess food too can transform Fishman, those who eat far too much grow in size and develop armor-like scales, becoming known Shark Bait, made by the large amounts "fresh 'food'" dropped in the ocean by the pirates of Lolosia.[8]
Like most other races they can become Undead, as seen with the Fishbones and the Beast of Pirate's Bay, yet another possible mutant Fishman who's also undead.
Behavior[]
Fishmen tend to not be aggressive and keep it to themselves, but are territorial and will act with murderous hostility against humans if they perceive an action as a threat or disrespect to their waters, such as fishing. Because of this countless fishermen have disappeared, and even signs posted and repeated warnings to keep people away, dozens still disappear yearly.[9] Attempts at diplomacy with the River Fishmen have repeatedly failed. Despite that, strangely the River Fishmen are peaceful when met with Zardmen and willingly let them wander in their lands and fish in their protected waters.
EbilCorp Fishmen are an exception in that they serve their employer, Chief Fish Marketing Officer Kuro, and not the waters the rest of their kin believe themselves to be guardians of. According to item description of "EbilCorp Fishman Guard" house item they take payment in salt water and cornflakes,[10] though it might be jokey description and not taken seriously, and if so, then EbilCorp Fishmen might alternatively be victims of EbilCorp's Animal Exploitation division, which is in charge of turning creatures into weapons for EbilCorp.[11]
