"Thank you for coming to Willow Creek, my child."
— Calafas

Calafas is the zealous and well-respected church elder of Willow Creek. She is careful of her flock and requests for help when farm animals begin being found eaten, but nevertheless keeps calm and helpful.

History[]

Background[]

Calafas takes care of the church in Willow Creek and appears to act as chief of the town. She is deeply empathetic for the community's wellbeing and keeps an open mind, as she considers their neighbors, the Dwakels living in caves on the moutain as part of that community.[1]

Crisis in Willow Creek[]

When Willow Creek started suffering attacks from a mysterious beast that's been eating its livestock and laying waste to the fields, Calafas sent a message to Warlic in Battleon, asking for aid. Warlic in return sent The Hero with a recommendation letter.[2] After delivering the letter to Calafas and proving themselves by slaying Frogdrakes and Mosquitos, pests in the area, the Hero was awarded the Church Seal, a badge signifying full authority.[3]

With trust placed on the Hero, Calafas told them to ask about incident to the farmers, starting with Farmer Westin, who had the most recent report. After helping him with the Frogzard problem on his backyard, Westin informed the Hero about the three "sheilas" he lost the previous month.[4] Farmer Northrup said the creature tore his cattle to shreds and left huge teeth and claw marks.[5] Farmer Southwick suspected the Dwakels were behind the attacks and advised the Hero to go after them.[6] Farmer Eastman talked about his dead sheep and chickens and added that the creature sneaked out at night, he suspected the monster hid in the caves.[7]

After getting reports from all the villagers Calafas asked the Hero to ask the Dwakel Chief for information, as she trusts his people who had always been peaceful. The Hero learned that the Dwakels too fear the night creature and have been attacked by it. The Church Elder later hands the Hero a tattered journal she found on the ground after the creature's last set of attacks, the Hero could make out the letters "So...h...ick"[8] and investigated Farmer Southwick's house but he was nowhere to be found, only a bone.

When the Hero reported back to Calafas she gave them a map of the woods and urged them to go find the creature in the dark forest surrounding the town before the villagers attacked the Dwakels the next morning, as they had grown increasingly suspicious of the reptiles.[9]

The Hero found out the creature that had been attacking Willow Creek was a werewolf, which apparently convinced the farmers to forsake their attack on the Dwakels, as all the families signed a Scroll of Thanks designed by the Church Elder. Next Calafas asked the Hero to retrieve some of the werewolf's fur so that perhaps a cure for his lycanthropy could be concocted, and lamented the fate that befell Farmer Southwick, who at that point had been deduced as being the werewolf.[10]

With Willow Creek safe, Calafas thanked the Hero and asked them to lend aid to her friend, Pete Noggle, down by the River, and also that they should stop by and talk to Loremaster Lydia.[11]

Chaos Finale[]

When the armies of Chaos marched upon Willow Creek with The Hero leading them as the 13th Lord of Chaos, Calafas hid at the Eastmans' house. Despite the efforts of heroes who stood up against Chaos, Willow Creek was destroyed in the attack, Calafas' fate is unclear, as she never appears again in the storyline.
