Alina Poisonbane, formerly known as Alac Keystone is a character in AdventureQuest Worlds. Born in nobility, she studied alchemy and poison-crafting at the Alchemy Academy of Swordhaven, eventually growing into the royal potionsmistress of King Alteon.
History[]
Background[]
Alina is the Royal Potionmistress to King Alteon.
The Hero first meets her at Oaklore Keep as they fight through the Shadowsycthe's undead army.
Undead Invasion[]
During the Undead Invasion Alina stayed at Oaklore Keep to help soldiers, heroes and adventurers, teaching them about healing and the importance of potions and other consumables.
AdventureQuest Worlds: Zombies[]
In the alternate timeline caused by Drakath, Sepulchure has killed King Alteon and destroyed Death enough to cause everyone that has previously died to return as zombies that obey Sepulchure's every command. Alina later becomes affected by the zombifying mist unleashed by Sepulchure transforming Alina in a mindless undead that needed to be put down by the Hero.
Ebilcorp[]
Dismantling the conspiracy[]
After the poisoning of King Alteon and Shendra Silvertree, her assistant, and the blame is put on her, Alina recruits the help of the Hero to investigate Raoul Silvertree, another brilliant potionmaker with a known thirst for power.
After opening the gate to Raoul's estate and fighting through his golems and frigid frogdrakes and avoiding traps, confronting Raoul was but a matter of dropping a Potion of Unscrutable Mutation on the alchemy circle he stepped on, interrupting his spell-trance and by luck giving him an "untied tongue" effect instead of something freakier. Still Raoul swears not to snitch on his co-conspirator and summons a Bird of Paradise through alchemy to fight the Hero and Alina so that he can get back to Swordhaven and give his daughter and the king an antidote, the former's poisoning having never been part of his plan.
Once the Bird of Paradise is dealt with interrogation ensues. Alina and the Hero find out that Raoul had his daughter poison King Alteon and hoped to poison Alina too by way of asking the royal cook to drop it in his soup so that Raoul later could give the antidote and blame Alina for the poisoning. Raoul states that a metal man put them up to the task, giving him no choice.[1]
The Metal Man[]
With Raoul put in chains, his part of the conspiracy foiled and Alina's innocence proven, Alina and the Hero had one more problem to solve: who the Metal/Silver Man was and why so many Pactagonal Knights had disappeared, including Captain Rolith. Talking to an ill Shendra Silvertree revealed little, leaving Alina worried as she refused to believe Rolith could have deserted, he must have been captured.[2]
After a conversation at an inn Alina saw herself unable to face the mortal peril ahead as the Royal Potionmistress and after a magical girl transformation rebranded herself as Royal Poisonmistress, complete with armor and sword. And so she and the Hero went on to investigate the missing knights, the Hero having come up with the idea of searching in the forests close to the capital.[3]
Drag marks on the ground led them to treeants, bandits and traitorous knights burning loyalists among the trees. After clearing up the way with Vegetal Decay Draught they found out the Lionfort and its gates closed. Before going in Alina and the Hero helped out a mother and her son living in the forest rebuild their house that was burned down due to the mother's refusal to work with the traitors.[4]
Ten knights who were loyal to King Alteon and refused to betray him were also saved from burning pyres by the Hero, one of them being Rolith's 3rd in command who revealed the Metal Man to be Xavier Lionfang, Maximillian's brother. After finding this out Alina and the Hero rushed to the Lionfort, slaying traitors on the way and melting a hole in the metal gates with Corrosive Philtre. Inside the fort more knights were slain as the place burned down with a flammable Termination Tonic.
While the Hero confronted Xavier with Termination Tonic burning their weapon[5], Alina and the just freed Rolith covered them by battling the traitors, their love for one another declared amid slashes until Rolith proposes to which Alina accepts. but decided not to kill him.
Lionfang reveals to the Hero his plan to shatter the Alliance by brainwashing whatever Pactagonal Knights he could and killing off the rest, poisoning the King and putting the blame on Alina and, already expecting the Hero's intrusion, give a distorted report about them trying to silence him as part of the conspiracy. Everything going right would have incited ire on the masses, to have the Alliance's greatest hero and representative make an attempt on one of its leaders would cause it to disband, allowing the war between Good and Evil to begin again.
After his lion, Silverclaw, is wounded and downed and he is defeated, Lionfang is imprisoned and Alina and Rolith tell the Hero the news about the planned wedding.
The Wedding[]
With so much time spent together adventuring and assuring the safety of Lore, Alina and Rolith lack the time to make all the wedding preparations, she asks the help of the Hero once again to act as Wedding Coordinator and get everything ready.[6] Rolith on the other hand is nervous about receival approval of Lord Keystone, Alina's father, afraid that he, as a noble spellcaster might not like his use of brute force in combat and asks the Hero to talk to him.
After getting coffee and materials for a wedding gift for Alina as well as Duke Keystone's approval, domesticating a Tog to be ring bearer and gathering cleaning products to wash away the pink of Alina's dress, the Hero still had to work with Cysero in fixing messes made by guests.
With everything set Alina and Rolith were able to get safely and soundly married by King Alteon.

Real Life Story[]
In real life Alina did not actually live in the area of the Secret Underground lab at first. Before 2007 she worked for her local newspaper as writer and even ran her university's literary magazine during grad school. In the breaks of her work and schooling, she would play AQ Classic and DragonFable. Using her social and writing skills she eventually ventured on the Artix Entertainment Forums to ask questions and help out other players under the name Alac88.
In 2007 Alina was noticed by the Forum Admins and made Forum Archknight. The same week she was also hired as co-editor in chief of the Zardian, AE's online magazine. This because she excelled in writing. From then on she worked under the name of Alac.
Time with DragonFable[]
Then, in 2008 she began helping the DragonFable team with writing and coding voluntarily. She also attended to DragonCon that year and met the AE team in real life, as well as saw Rolith there for the first time. Artix convinced her to join the developer team in Florida and so Alac prepared for this big transition.
It was in 2009 that she finally got to join the AE team at the Secret Underground lab as she moved over to Florida. She worked there full-time as DragonFable developer doing design and writing, working closely together with Rolith who taught her more coding. When Artix Entertainment released AdventureQuest Worlds, Alac joined the team as one of the first moderators while at the same time working on DragonFable.
When she wrote her own in-game release for DragonFable in 2010, she could not stick to her name Alac and then changed to Alina, the potionmistress as she appeared in-game. She became good friends with a lot of other staff members like Reens and Cysero but build an even stronger relationship with Rolith.
Taking Over AQW[]
As AQW grew and became more succesful, Alina was moved over from the DragonFable team to the AQW team in 2011. This same year she became co-lead of the game with Cysero to eventually take the total lead of AQW in 2012. But not before she married Rolith in real life and in-game, almost one year after Cysero had done the same (just married, not with Rolith).
Since then she has been leading the AQW team as its official project lead. She organized the growing game very well, making different sub-teams with as lead: Reens for the moderators, Stratos for the testers, J6 for the artists, doing coding and writing herself with Memet, Dumoose and Yorumi. Being this organized, the game development structure was very clear and worked smoothly.
Being very engaging and possibly remembering the time at the forums, Alina also started to take out standard amounts of time in her schedule to interact with the AE community over the Forums, Design Notes and Social Media. Counting in number of written AQW Design Notes she might beat Artix in amounts.
Almost taking over Artix Entertainment[]
As Artix Entertainment grew in company and her organizing skills sure proved their worth, in 2015 Alina obtained the extra task and title of Artix Entertainment Project Manager. This entailed that she would oversee many of AE's non-game projects. Like contests, documentation, the Lorepedia, wiki, websites, voluntary staffing etc.
Having a way broader range now there was a lot more organizing to do and policies to change, which she has been doing behind the scenes all the time. This besides still being the lead of the AQW team.
Later in 2017 she got officially promoted to Vice-President of Products and Operations, the right hand of Artix, the actual president (CEO) of Artix Entertainment. Her function means that she oversees all products (games) and how they operate within Artix Entertainment besides Artix himself. It is needless to say that she is besides Artix one of the most busy members of Artix Entertainment.
Still she also always does find herself time each day to interact with the community and answer the numbers of people that message her. And despite that she did not give up her previous job as AQW lead, her passion which she still does with joy and dilligence.[7]
